I enjoyed learning recently about the annual international drone photography contest<\/em>.\u00a0 The contest\u00a0was mentioned in the papers and, of course, I learned more by Googling.\u00a0 I liked\u00a0what I read and saw.<\/p>\n

The contest\u00a0recognizes that drone photography is more than\u00a0fun indulged\u00a0in by hobbyists with\u00a0$300\u00a0drones and more than a surveillance technique used by the RCMP with $30,000\u00a0gear.\u00a0 It’s an art form, and on the list with\u00a0its use\u00a0as\u00a0a valuable forensic engineering technique\u00a0using\u00a0a $10,000 drone fitted with a camera.<\/p>\n

The winning and runner-up photographs in the contest are impressive\u00a0– you must go online\u00a0and see if there is an artistic\u00a0bent to your nature at all.\u00a0\u00a0Impressed is the way I\u00a0felt too when I first saw drone video of one of my forensic sites.<\/p>\n

The contest photographs are submitted in\u00a0four categories: Nature, People, Urban and Creativity by drone photographers from\u00a0everywhere in\u00a0the world.\u00a0 Profiles of the professional and amateur photographers are included on the contest site.<\/p>\n

The photographs are judged by a panel of experts that include representatives from National Geographic in France and the US, and from Kodak.\u00a0 Both companies are two of several high profile sponsors of the annual competition.\u00a0 This year, 2017, is the fourth year\u00a0the contest has\u00a0been held.<\/p>\n

Such quality in photography and high profile in contest sponsorship is telling about the future of this photographic technique.\u00a0 It\u00a0echoes\u00a0the increasing success I’m having in my forensic investigations getting evidence with a drone and presenting\u00a0it to my earthbound clients.<\/p>\n
