{"id":6172,"date":"2018-02-21T14:58:20","date_gmt":"2018-02-21T18:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ericjorden.com\/blog\/?p=6172"},"modified":"2018-02-21T14:58:20","modified_gmt":"2018-02-21T18:58:20","slug":"guidance-for-canadian-experts-with-a-little-help-from-the-usa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ericjorden.com\/blog\/2018\/02\/21\/guidance-for-canadian-experts-with-a-little-help-from-the-usa\/","title":{"rendered":"Guidance for Canadian experts &#8211; with a little help from the USA?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You might be interested in the\u00a02nd annual Expert Witness Forum in Toronto later this month.\u00a0 The two day conference is being held at the Marriott Bloor Yorkville on February 28nd and March 1st.<\/p>\n<p>The speakers cover the standard topics of interest to experts in half and three quarter hour talks for a total of about 11 contact hours in the two days.\u00a0 There&#8217;s also a panel discussion, a round table, a case study\u00a0and a keynote speaker on the agenda.\u00a0\u00a0And lots of networking sessions and refreshments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Expert report writing<\/li>\n<li>Peer reviewing reports<\/li>\n<li>Mistakes experts make<\/li>\n<li>What lawyers look for in experts<\/li>\n<li>Preparing experts for cross-examination<\/li>\n<li>Principles governing communicating with experts<\/li>\n<li>How technology is impacting expert witness testimony<\/li>\n<li>A judicial assessment and a legal practitioner&#8217;s views of expert witness testimony<\/li>\n<li>Using expert evidence in arbitration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0speakers come\u00a0from the judiciary, law firms, ADR firms and firms providing related services to the judiciary process.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no indication of take-aways and handouts but I would look for something on these important topics as they reflect Canadian practice.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m pleased\u00a0to see such a\u00a0forum in Canada\u00a0emphasizing\u00a0the way it is here.\u00a0 SEAK Inc. and Expert Communication Inc. in the USA have\u00a0been holding conferences and workshops for the guidance of\u00a0experts for decades.\u00a0 Much of their\u00a0extensive literature is applicable in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>I have about\u00a0five of\u00a0SEAK&#8217;s texts covering the listed topics above including the massive, 560 page, 8&#8243; x 11&#8243; second edition, 2014,\u00a0<em>How to Write an Expert Witness Report<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, the conference in Toronto later this month will also reference what has\u00a0been going on\u00a0in the USA and\u00a0bridge to a wealth of\u00a0information\u00a0there for Canadian expert witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>You can see the complete agenda and register at the following site:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadianinstitute.com\/expert-witness-forum\/\">https:\/\/www.canadianinstitute.com\/expert-witness-forum\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You might be interested in the\u00a02nd annual Expert Witness Forum in Toronto later this month.\u00a0 The two day conference is being held at the Marriott Bloor Yorkville on February 28nd and March 1st.
